When Bennie’s family reached out to us, their message carried both love and hope. At just 4 months old, Bennie was in the Pediatric ICU at OU Children’s Hospital after undergoing a tracheotomy. Despite the challenges he faced, his family described him as a true fighter and a proud OKC Thunder fan, just like us.
They shared that Bennie’s thick baby hair was getting caught and causing discomfort, and asked if The BarbeReyes Project could come to the hospital to give him a haircut.
“It would mean the world to our family and would be such a bright moment for Bennie during this journey.”
What might seem like a small act, a trim around the back and sides became something much bigger. It was a chance to bring comfort, dignity, and a bright moment of normalcy during his journey.
When the clippers came out, the hospital room transformed. Bennie’s family smiled as they saw him not only looking fresh, but also more comfortable and at ease. That day reminded us what this mission is all about: barbering as a tool for care, connection, and hope.

Your support helps us bring moments like this to more families: restoring confidence, dignity, and joy when they need it most.
